ScopeRange explained
How does ScopeRange work?
ScopeRange is ScopeMatch's confidence-adjusted local market analysis price range for the likely contracted price of your project as posted, under ordinary site conditions. It is not a contractor quote or a guaranteed estimate.
Post your projectWhat does a ScopeRange result show?
After you post a project, ScopeRange can show one market analysis price range, a confidence label, and a comparison with your stated budget when available.
The range describes the scope currently posted. It does not include unknown hidden conditions or work added later, and some projects need more detail before a numeric range can be shown.
Is ScopeRange a contractor quote?
No. ScopeRange is market guidance for planning and comparing expectations, not an offer to perform the work, a guaranteed estimate, or a final invoice.
A contractor determines their own price after reviewing the scope. Site conditions, materials, access, preparation, and changes to the work can affect that price.
Which project details help clarify the range?
Describe the actual work and its relevant quantities. A room repaint, one door refinish, a fixture replacement, and a whole-roof replacement need different scope details.
For a room repaint, say whether walls, ceiling, trim, and doors are included. For a door refinish, describe the door count, material, existing coating, condition, preparation, and whether the frame is included. Whole-home square footage does not describe every job.
- Trade and type of work: repair, replace, repaint, refinish, install, or another clearly described task.
- Relevant measurements or item counts, existing condition, and preparation needs.
- Material or finish expectations, access, occupancy, and timing.
- General project location and photos that help explain the work.
Does my budget change the market analysis price range?
No. Your stated budget is compared with the market analysis price range; it is not used to pull the range toward the amount you want to spend.
If the budget and range differ, clarify the scope or discuss options with a contractor. The comparison is guidance, not a judgment about your project.
Why can a range be broad or unavailable?
Incomplete or conflicting project details, limited supporting market evidence, or work that needs closer review can make a narrow price range unreliable.
ScopeRange may provide a broader early-guidance range or no numeric result until more details are confirmed. A confidence label is not an accuracy guarantee.
Does ScopeRange price every trade and ZIP code?
No. ScopeMatch's six supported trades describe marketplace coverage, not a promise of a numeric ScopeRange result for every type of work.
ScopeMatch's launch area is Mobile and Baldwin Counties, Alabama. Local market guidance does not mean every ZIP code has enough verified comparable projects for a ZIP-specific price.
How should I use ScopeRange with a contractor?
Use it to prepare a clearer conversation about scope and budget. Share the included work, ask about missing details, and arrange a site review when needed.
Contractors can show interest or request a site review without submitting a price. ScopeRange does not set or require their bid, and the homeowner and contractor agree on project terms independently.
